We cordially invite you to join us in celebrating our 40th anniversary on behalf of our respected founder, Byllye Y. Avery, our President, Linda Goler Blount, MPH, and our dedicated Board of Directors.
But wait, there's more... We're excited to also present the BWHI “State of Black Women Symposium" in conjunction with our incredible 40th Anniversary!
BWHI is delighted to announce two distinguished 2023 BWHI Vanguard Award recipients: Rev. Sarah Jakes Roberts and Sheryl Lee Ralph.
Both Rev. Sarah Jakes Roberts and Sheryl Lee Ralph have exemplified the true spirit of the BWHI Vanguard Award by working as ambassadors for BWHI, spreading a critical and culturally tailored message to help women live healthier, happier lives. Their contributions have transformed and saved lives, aligning with the award's core mission.
The Black Women's Health Imperative (BWHI) recognizes our "Builders of the Movement," those who were foundational to creating the National Black Woman's Health Project (now-renamed BWHI) mission of fostering a society in which all Black women and girls can achieve their full potential in all spheres of life.
Black Women’s Health Imperative (BWHI) celebrated its 40th anniversary with the launch of its first State of Black Women (SOBW) symposium. The event was held at BWHI’s birthplace, Spelman College in Atlanta, and featured panel discussions, white paper presentations, and keynote speakers from the scientific and medical communities.
And, we will look toward the future with a new call to action in the fight for reproductive justice!
Our celebrations will feature local artists, musicians, and thought leaders. And we will honor grassroots leaders with BWHI signature awards.
And, In honor of our 40th anniversary, BWHI will offer 40 scholarships (8 per city) to cover the full cost of the ticket to our gala events.
